VILLA PAPAGAYO

Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica

Charles R. Stinson Design International was selected among a handful of international architects to design homes for the exclusive Peninsula Papagayo Resort Community. Stinson and his team’s emphasis on creating architectural compositions in harmony with nature was seen as a natural fit for the Costa Rican landscape.

This luxury beach villa rests on an exclusive beach overlooking the ocean. The architectural design vision is aligned with the aesthetic of the surrounding natural environment, focusing on a seamless inside-outside connection between living spaces. Large window walls slide into elegant forms of limestone, making the outdoor patios and terraces a direct extension of the interior living spaces. The window walls, as well as the other energy-efficient, operable windows, allow the cooling breeze of the ocean to permeate through the house in addition to giving each room a breathtaking ocean view. Soaring overhangs not only give the home its distinctive aesthetic, but offer extensive shading from the sun during the summer months. Another way to cool down, while enjoying the ocean views and breezes, is by dipping into the infinity-edge swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by a floating wood pool deck and limestone tile terraces ideal for entertaining. After an afternoon of swimming, the rooftop deck offers the ideal vantage point for taking in the sunset within the canopies of the trees encircling the home.

The tranquility established by the outdoor spaces continues to the interior of the home. The villa has four bedrooms and five bathrooms in just over 5,000 air conditioned square feet (460 square meters). The wood ceilings extend from the outside-in to give the striking lines of the architecture a distinct warmth.
