Private Residence, United States

This warm, modern lake home designed by Charles R. Stinson Architects is a living sculpture situated on a beautiful, wooded lot. Strong, horizontal roof forms of wood and bronze appear to float as they reach across the maple-treed site. Living areas, by CRS Interiors, open toward the lake with floor to ceiling glass onto broadly soaring decks. Beautifully crafted vertical forms of limestone anchor the home lightly, still allowing the total composition to soar.

Upon entering, one is greeted by a two-story stone and bronze sculptural fireplace. Elegant cedar ceiling planes lend a sense of scale and harmony while bands of glass wrap the clerestory, giving a view of sky and clouds. Custom maple cabinets reflect the areas indigenous trees while adding warmth to the living spaces. Floating stairs and glass railings invite one to visit the lower level for lake access and guest accommodations. The final result is a gracious and welcoming home with the feel of a modern prairie-style yacht serenely floating on a pristine lake.
